Global Matrix III

Opening today and running through February 19, Purdue Galleries presents “Global Matrix III” an international printmaking exhibition that will fill both the Stewart Center Gallery and Robert L. Ringel Gallery in Purdue Memorial Union.

Global Matrix III is a contemporary review of fine art printmaking from around the world organized as a traveling exhibition in the U.S. from 2012 to 2014. Previous installments of Global Matrix were presented in 2002 and 2007. With this year’s chosen works, the Global Matrix exhibits have featured a total of 225 works representing 180 individual artists from 31 countries around the world.

Working together again to select works for Global Matrix III were: Kimberly Vito, Associate Professor of Art & Art History at Wright State University; Kathryn Reeves, Professor of Art & Design at Purdue University; Sean Caulfield, Associate Professor of Art & Design at the University of Alberta; and Craig Martin, Director of the Purdue University Galleries.

It is always an honor to re-visit the diverse works of our participating artists. While the process of jurying this show has changed so dramatically (the first installment was chosen entirely from 35 mm slides – this exhibit was chosen through a completely digital process), our ties to these artists remain friendly and familiar with the passage of time. It’s been intriguing to re-visit these international partners and to watch their works evolve as each 5-year span unfolds. It’s also wonderful to see new images every year from new names. There are some terrific recent works being generated in this time-honored field.

This Thursday, January 12 from 5:30 - 7 pm, the Galleries will host opening receptions in both galleries, with refreshments in the Ringel Gallery and free printmaking activities in the Stewart Center Gallery, led by ArtCart volunteers. (Hellooo, ArtCart volunteers...)
Please make plans to join us!

It would be a great thing if you could do the artist participating and us the extremely interested art lovers the tribute of showing all the selected piece individually online. I missed the submission deadline and so I would love to see them all. Documentation really makes it so much better especially for oversees people. Please consider doing this.

best wishes
